This forum has been created to allow residents of Southport (Sandgrounders) in Lancashire and Merseyside, and visitors to the CAMRA branch region to submit any comments or observations they have on the beer and pubs they visit. This could be something as simple as "tried Oakhams Inferno" (if only we had that beer round here). Please keep your comments constructive and do not personnaly abuse anyone connected with real ale in the area. We are a campaigning organisation and a consumer pressure group intending to promote real ale. If you get a bad pint take it back, the pub should change it for you.

There are some good beers in Southport. I go there quite often. Some pubs and landlords though dont seem to have a clue. The beer is flat and must have been on a week or they have hand pumps and no real beer. The royal clifton has a great bar but the real ale when its on might as well be drawn straight from the bogs! Mad

I see the Scarisbrick Arms has been closed in Downholland. This was a great pub with loads of different good beers. Oftengot free sandwiches here and could sit by the canal when it was good weather. I think it should be against the law to shut a pub so quickly without any consultation. Presumably the fat bastard that sold it would have taken the money no matter where it came from so someone could have bout it and kept it as a pub maybe with some rooms to rent at the back in the old buildings. With a bit of imagination this pub could have done well as it has done since the turn of last century. Over a hundred years old and now gone. I'm well pissed off

The Scarisbrick will live again. You can read about it in this week's champion or on the drink up blog
